Basketball gifts for kids: a julegave guide and starter kit checklist

Your child talks about basketball at breakfast, dribbles through the hallway and wants to be at the court every afternoon. Christmas is coming, and you want to give something they will actually use. Good news: you do not need to buy everything. Here is a simple julegave guide for parents of young hoopers, plus a starter kit checklist.

Start with what they use every week

The best basketball gift is the one that gets used at practice. Before you browse, ask yourself three things:

  • Does my child have a ball of their own?
  • Do they have a jersey and shorts they like to wear?
  • Do they have a bag to carry it all to training?

If the answer to any of these is no, start there. Everything else is a bonus.

1. A ball of their own

Nothing beats a ball of your own. It means shooting in the driveway, dribbling on the way to school and extra reps that nobody asked for. That is how kids get better.

Size matters. Most clubs use size 5 for the younger age groups, size 6 for some older girls and teens, and size 7 for older boys and men, but check with your club. Our guide on which basketball size your child needs and the Basketball Size Guide make it easy.

2. A jersey and shorts set

A matching set is the classic present for basketballtøj. Your child opens it, puts it on and does not take it off. Sets are also easy for you: one gift, one look, jersey and shorts together.

Take a look at the Muertos Jersey + Shorts Set (from 499 kr) or browse the whole Sets collection to find a design your player will love.

Important: kids grow fast, and sizes differ between styles. Measure your child's height and check our Size Guide before you order. Our jersey and shorts size guide for kids walks you through it step by step.

Practice kit needs fresh socks too. The PRO Performance Socks 3-Pack (179 kr) means a clean pair for every session.

3. A bag to carry it all

A good bag is a gift that gets used every single week. Ball, kit, water bottle: it all goes in one place, and nothing gets left behind at the gym. The Basketball Bag costs 69 kr.

4. Small extras for the stocking

Not every gift has to be big. Small things make great stocking fillers and let your child show some style on court:

Want a pair? The Sharp Shooting Sleeve – Pair is 199 kr.

Want to stay on budget? Our gift collections are sorted by price: gifts under 200 kr and gifts under 500 kr.

Starter kit checklist

Print it, screenshot it or keep it in your notes. For a young player starting out, this covers the basics:

  • A basketball in the right size for their age group
  • A jersey and shorts they feel good in
  • Basketball shoes that fit, with room to grow (try them on in a shop)
  • A bag for ball, kit and water bottle
  • A water bottle with their name on it
  • A sweatband or sleeve, just for fun

That is it. Shoes are the one thing we recommend buying in a physical shop so you can check the fit. Everything else you can sort online.

The best gift: time on court

Gear helps, but kids learn the game by playing it. If your child is between 7 and 15, a camp is a great way to meet new friends and build skills. Have a look at ZWISH Camps, which started our whole story.

Not sure what to pick?

If you do not know the size or the style, let your child choose. A gift card lets them pick their own gear. See our full Christmas Gift Guide for more ideas, or browse Kids & Youth for basketball til børn. Free shipping in Denmark from 499 kr.
